There are many cheap hosting plans that could work well for you and your business, whether yours is a strictly online company or you are looking to the Internet as an added forum to the business that you have already begun. the worldwide web is the most revolutionary, easily accessible, and far reaching tool that has ever been available to the business owner, the industry professional, and the independent salesperson or service provider. what?s even more impressive about this vast tool is that over 75% of the world?s population has access to and utilizes the Internet for the finding and purchasing of products and services.

/>this means that you can reach people from all over the world during all hours of the day or night, throughout the weekends, without having to worry about travel, paper sales costs, or time differences that could normally hinder sales. with the proper set up and the perfect site layout, you can adhere to the premise and sound quality of service that your clients deserve without worrying about being available 24/7. Cheap hosting plans are offered all over the place, but you will need to be able to decipher the good from the bad as you set out on your quest for the right site builder and hosting plan for you.

When you are looking into cheap hosting plans, you will want to know what you are looking to accomplish before signing onto anything. If you are simply looking for an exposure page that displays your company or business, your contact information, and maybe even a visitor counter and an email contact option, you will be right at home with many of the free web hosting pages that are offered. you may be asked to keep advertisements on your page in order to help make money for your hosting company, but this is normally no hindrance for these simpler pages.

If you intend to run flash scripts or more intensive programs, if you need to upload many photos and descriptive links for products, if you plan to offer live customer service chat options, and you need to offer point of sales software to accept payments online, you will definitely need more space and a stronger plan. you can still find cheap hosting plans for your needs, though your costs will be slightly higher yet than for those who just need simpler services, so keep in mind those things that you can do without.

Large corporate enterprises are not the only ones that need to be careful about security and having the tools in place to recover from a web hosting disaster.

My good buddy Barry, from Layered Tech posed an interesting quandary to me the other day.

As someone who works for a major player in hosting, one of the biggest problems I see on a daily basis is people having their server hacked and used for some nefarious purposes such as spam, DOS attacks, and more. there are many ways to combat this costly threat, what is the most cost-effective way for the small to medium-sized business?

It is important for everybody to have a good offense and a good defense when it comes to all the proverbial ?natural disasters? that can happen in the web hosting world.? My best advice would be to have a good strategy in place first, so you can prevent the problems from happening in the first place. You have to be proactive, and not reactive.

Now, I know that might be hard to do in a tough economy, cause we are all short on money, time and man power.? if you can keep an eye on a couple of important things, you should have less problems to deal with, and more time to devote to your web site and business.

Here are a few key things everyone should keep in mind:

Monitor your server usage, no matter if you are on a shared hosting plan or a dedicated server.? Check in once a day or once a week to make sure your usage stays on average, and if you see a steady increase, you talk with your hosting provider to make sure you are ready for the time that increase means you need more computing power.

Stay on top of the latest updates for your scripts and plugins. once a hole is found in a third-party script, it doesn?t take long for holes to be exploited. if you have a script installed, like WordPress or SMF, stay up to date on when it is updated.? the faster you get updates done, the less likely your web site or business will be compromised.

Get help when you need it. for web hosting clients that go down the dedicated or VPS hosting route, find a web hosting partner that will be able to get with you quickly to tackle your problems.? I have often said you can?t judge a web host by the clich? 99.9% uptime guarantee.? a true test of a web host is how they react to a tough situation.? In a shared hosting situation, it might be harder to get the attention needed 100% of the time, due to the fact that you are one in a hundred or more people on a server.? that is one of the drawbacks to the shared hosting world.

Making sure your offense is as good as or better than your defense can solve a lot of problems before they happen.? Small businesses should try to be proactive about problems in the long run, rather than reactive when the going gets tough.

Big thanks to Barry from Layered Tech for such an awesome question.? Be sure to check them out at LayeredTech.com and give them a big thank you for being the number one supporters and sponsors of the Web Hosting Show podcast.? if you have a web hosting or development question, give me your name, URL and question over on the submit a question page and I will be more than happy to help!

No two website hosting services are similar. Free website hosting is a great idea, but it is truly only designed for the beginner website designer, or someone that just wants to have their own small niche on the internet. Free website hosting sites are usually inundated with pop up advertisements, banner adverts, and other ads, which are all sometimes a turn off for visitors. if you are making an internet site to earn money, it’s a smart idea to keep away from free hosting services, since they will very likely make you lose sales.

The majority see internet sites with tons of advertisements on them and click away to something else, since their strongest instinct is that the site must be a con.

Shared website hosting

It is one of the more common types of hosting, but it is also not actually as good as some others. Shared hosting essentially implies the site is on a shared server that shares space with other sites. while this is effective for more straightforward sites, it may not work best for bigger, database type sites or web pages with tons of visitors.

Some more widely known corporations now sell server space for website hosting purposes, and make an excellent choice for people who need to set up an internet site but don’t have the reserves or funds to do so all alone dedicated server.

Shared server is a good starter hosting service to get your feet wet.

Reseller hosting has everything a shared hosting plan has, but it is only significant difference is that as a reseller plan holder of the account can sell web space, as if they’re their own company. Another major difference is a reseller plan permits unlimited domains. A reseller is in a position to create accounts for them sites or their clients using the WHM (internet host Boss).

Update: Thanks to all of those who participated! our second Open Session was a success. a recording of the session is available on this page.

Due to the success of the first Open Session we hosted a couple of weeks ago, we’re hosting another one soon. this Open Session will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 8 PM CT.

Just like last time, this Open Session will be a chance for both potential and existing HostGator customers to come into a live chat with other customers and HostGator employees and get tips, information, and have a chance to ask questions and get answers from the people who make the decisions at HostGator. Participants can either call in or just listen on their computers. there is also a text chat for people who would prefer to type their questions.

Some of the things we’ll be discussing include:

  • Tips and suggestions on how to get the most out of your HostGator account from senior system administrators
  • Discussion of HostGator’s upcoming Windows Shared Hosting launch, including questions and answers with the person in charge of Windows hosting here at HostGator
  • Questions and answers about anything related to HostGator, ranging from what our servers support to what we eat for lunch in the office
  • Discounts and/or free hosting to some participants who ask great questions.

Like last time, we’re planning on having our Deputy CTO, Chief Marketing Officer, and Customer Service Manager lead this Open Session. these three people are able to answer just about any question you can think of related to HostGator. there will also be senior support people available to answer more general questions and help out as needed.

Logistics:
TalkShoe worked well for us last time and we’ll be using it again for this Open Session. If you live outside of the US central timezone, check out this site for a list of corresponding times around the world. right before 8 PM CT on Wednesday, head over to this page for instructions on how to join the session (it?s very simple).

(The Hosting News) – GlobalSign Ltd, has now cemented it’s cooperative agreement with Webhost4less, a web hosting provider. Globalsign has stated that this agreement will allow Webhost4less to enhance their hosting solutions by bundling its 2048 bit, SSL Certificates as a value add, as well as offering SSL as a standalone website security product.

It explains that by adding SSL Certificates to their product range, Webhost4less can not only provide a comprehensive one stop shop service offering affordable online security solutions to the UK small and medium enterprise (SME) market, but it can also take advantage of opening up an additional and profitable revenue stream – an invaluable feature for a startup company in a very competitive market. Webhost4less therefore sought an SSL provider who could offer highly trusted and reliable SSL Certificates at affordable prices.

The company states that Webhost4less chose to partner with GlobalSign due to its trusted, but simplified SSL product range including additional free features not available from other providers such as Server Gated Cryptography (SGC) (to “step up” weak browser encryption to strong encryption on older browsers), plus the additional benefit of its integration with WHMCS, a web hosting billing management platform. It further states that the WHMCS plug-in allows hosting companies like Webhost4less to manage and automate reselling GlobalSign SSL Certificates conveniently using the same platform they use to manage their hosting solutions. Adding its SSL Certificates to their hosting portfolio required minimal implementation time, cost or resources.

“we are delighted to welcome on board our latest partner, Webhost4less, as we continue to grow our portfolio of partners worldwide,” said Steve Waite, Marketing Director, GlobalSign Ltd. “we look forward to Webhost4less taking our trusted SSL solutions to their customer base and anticipate a long and mutually beneficial partnership with this new UK hosting provider.”

“As today’s hosting market is extremely competitive, we wanted to be able to offer our customers a range of comprehensive hosting solutions including online security,” said Jim McDonald, Managing Director, Webhost4less. “As a new hosting provider entering the market, GlobalSign’s Partner Program seemed to be the best solution for us, offering a comprehensive reseller support package and ongoing training which will inevitably enable us to grow our business in the future.”
