January 16, 2009 – (HOSTINGWORD.COM) – Web host SingleHop experienced 673% growth in 2008, the company announced recently. The Chicago, Illinois, USA-based company experienced both revenue and client-base growth and despite only being established in late 2006, it currently has customers in over 40 countries and revenues of $4.5 million.

“Many factors contributed to our growth, one of which being our selection of Chicago as a home base,” explained SingleHop’s President and CEO, Zak Boca. “The talent pool here is outstanding, and existing infrastructures for high-tech companies like ours to flourish already exist.”

Alongside its revenue and customer growth, SingleHop grew its staff by “over 600%” from 2007 to 2008 and expects to “add an additional 15 jobs in the first half of 2009 in Chicago”. The company utilizes more than 1,500 servers and achieved GAAP profitability in the 3rd quarter of 2008.

“Despite the economic downturn, we are going to move forward with additional investments in our development and our customer service departments. We’re hopeful that 2009 will be another fruitful year for us,” added Mr. Boca.

In 2008 SingleHop developed and deployed a range of new technologies, including the LEAP webtop, and advanced automatic server provisioning (AASP). In 2009 the company plans to introduce SingleHop.mobi, an “iPhone application for server management, LEAP Developer API, and the opening of a new data center facility”.

January 15, 2009 (HOSTINGWORD.COM) – WebHostingBuzz.com (www.webhostingbuzz.com) has revamped its entire reseller hosting range to include even more features and quotas as well as lowering entry price points.

“Having started off from a reseller plan ourselves back in 2002, we’re very in tune with the reseller hosting market,” WebHostingBuzz.com chief executive officer Safvan Malik said in a statement. Providing services to over 50,000 websites, several thousand of which are resellers, Malik noted WebHostingBuzz.com has looked to its resellers to shape the new plans. “These plans are designed to offer customers the same opportunity that we have had and capitalized on and we work very hard to help our resellers succeed.”

Starting at about $15 per month, WebHostingBuzz.com’s new reseller hosting plans include cPanel, a 24/7 helpdesk with live chat support and telephone support during business hours. WebHostingBuzz.com also provides WHMAutopilot billing software, Fantastico, SSL certificates, and private name servers, all particularly important features for resellers. “Our offerings are an attractive proposition for those looking to start their own web hosting business with us, or simply consolidate all of their hosting into one account,” Malik added.

Adding yet another enhancement to its business hosting plan, shared, reseller and dedicated web hosting company HostGator (hostgator.com) has included a toll-free number at no additional cost, which can be pointed to any existing phone number in the US or Canada, helping business customers achieve a more professional image.

According to the company’s announcement Wednesday, each toll-free number, supplied through voice-over-IP provider VOIPo (www.voipo.com), includes 100 free minutes of usage per month with additional minutes available for 4.9 cents each. Customers can view their toll-free number’s call history online in real-time.

Adding a toll-free number to its business-oriented shared hosting plan will complement HostGator’s flagship plan, according to the company. The business plan already lets users host unlimited websites and includes a free private SSL certificate and dedicated IP address as well as unlimited disk space and bandwidth.

“Late last year, we set a new industry standard by including a free SSL certificate and dedicated IP address with our Business hosting plan,” HostGator founder and chief executive officer Brent Oxley said in a statement. “Now, we’re taking it a step further and giving those same customers a toll-free number at no charge.”

HostGator marketing director Chad Bean notes that customers tend to trust businesses that can post a toll-free number online.

“It’s no mystery that having a toll-free number on your website can drastically improve conversion rates and further establish trust with your site’s visitors,” Bean said in a statement. “By providing toll-free numbers for free, we’re adding another service to our growing roster of free add-ons and helping to give our web hosting customers the competitive edge in the increasingly competitive hosting market.”

The toll-free phone number service is provided and managed by Houston-based VOIPo, which was founded by a former HostGator executive in 2006.

Having added 4,500 free web design templates for customers just over a year ago, adding freebies has been a successful strategy for HostGator, which was named the 21st fastest growing private company in the US according to Inc. Magazine’s August 2008 report.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – (HOSTINGWORD.COM) – (Jan. 14, 2009) – Go Daddy has two commercials approved by network censors for one slot in this year’s Super Bowl broadcast, 18-plus days in advance. That’s a Go Daddy first.

The big question now, which thirty-second commercial will air? Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons will let YOU help decide. The public is invited to cast votes online, starting today. Both versions are available at www.GoDaddy.com.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how people vote – I like both ads,” said Parsons. “I say we give the viewers what they want to see.”

Both approved ads are GoDaddy-esque, meaning the ads are fun, edgy and slightly inappropriate, as is the Go Daddy tradition. Both spots feature IndyCar’s most popular driver and Go Daddy Girl Danica Patrick.

The first option features Danica taking a shower with another woman as three college students watch.

“The ‘Shower’ commercial is the one people usually pick sight unseen,” Parsons laughed. “It’s hot alright, no doubt about it, but the twist is what really makes this ad great!”

The second option, like Go Daddy’s legendary 2005 Super Bowl ad, spoofs a controversial issue. “Baseball” takes on the steroids scandal in typical GoDaddy-esque style. Its cast includes recurring character actor Booth Colman, who appeared in the original Go Daddy Super Bowl ad, and CEO Bob Parsons. Both ads were created in-house by Go Daddy Productions.

AdWeek advertising expert Barbara Lippert has a history of panning Go Daddy ads, but was unusually critical after previewing the baseball spoof. “This is lower than the usual Go Daddy low – it’s pathetic,” Lippert said.

Love the ads, or hate them, Go Daddy has a history of innovation when it comes to Super Bowl campaigns. Go Daddy’s first-ever Super Bowl ad in 2005 parodied the infamous “wardrobe malfunction.” The FOX network pulled the ad before airing it a second time in that game, generating an avalanche of publicity.

Beyond its risqué reputation, the company has generated business along with the buzz. Go Daddy’s 2006 Super Bowl ad generated unprecedented Web traffic. Its 2007 spot was honored by IAG as the Most-Recalled commercial of the entire year. Last year, FOX censors refused to approve Go Daddy’s “Exposure” ad, so Parsons quickly developed another commercial encouraging viewers to watch the intended Super Bowl ad online. The broadcast commercial produced 1.5MM Go Daddy Web hits before the game ended.

Clearly, the Super Bowl commercials have boosted Go Daddy’s bottom line. Prior to the first Super Bowl ad, Go Daddy’s market share was 16 percent. That number climbed after each Super Bowl campaign. Today, Go Daddy’s market share of new domains is an overwhelming 46 percent, putting Go Daddy at a level more than three times the size of its closest competitor.

This year, it comes down to “Shower” or “Baseball.”

To vote on which commercial you want to see in next month’s Super Bowl broadcast, visit www.GoDaddy.com. Voting ends Friday, Jan. 23, 2009.

January 14, 2009 – (HOSTINGWORD.COM) – Web host The Planet is offering a “migration promotion” to celebrate the New Year, it was reported recently. The company is calling its promotion, which targets “customers looking to switch hosting providers”, its “boldest, most aggressive” ever. The promotion comprises an offer to provide the existing web hosting customers one month of free service, free “customized” migration assistance, and one hour of advanced services consultation for each new server purchased.

“In today’s difficult economic climate, customers have expressed concerns about the quality and long-term viability of their hosting providers, particularly with their entire business resting in the hands of companies that could collapse under financial pressure,” explained Douglas J. Erwin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Planet. “We’ve recently announced both a $45 million credit facility and a new 86,000 square foot data center that will open in May to accommodate our colocation and complex systems businesses. We are well positioned to provide the increasing demand we are experiencing for new and existing services. Backed by our world-class data centers and network, we have a well-earned reputation as the best company for one-stop IT infrastructure shopping for the small- and medium-sized business.”

The free service offer is available to new customers and covers their “entire hosting solution”, whether dedicated servers, private or virtual racks. It also covers “add-on products” like storage and data protection, firewalls and load balancers. To receive these benefits new customers must provide a recent invoice from a competing hosting provider. More details are available on the company’s corporate website.

January 13, 2009 – (HOSTINGWORD.COM) – Web host The Planet – an “on demand IT Infrastructure solutions provider” that hosts around 14.5 million websites worldwide – has launched Alpha Professional; a new arm that “provides private and virtual rack customers with ‘Business-Class’ services”. Alpha Professional offers ongoing contact with certified systems administrators (Red Hat Certified Engineers (RHCE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSE)) and adheres to a “First-call resolution” policy to offer the best in support and service.

With a “one-hour hardware replacement” guarantee, Alpha Professional also provides server monitoring and daily managed backup services. According to the company, it “provides an intermediate step between self-managed dedicated servers with a la carte Alpha Advanced Services – including Alpha Managed Backup, Alpha Server Monitoring and Alpha Security – and the company’s Northstar Managed Hosting solution.”

“Virtually every company evaluates IT spending during an economic downturn,” explained General Manager for Advanced Services at The Planet, Todd Mitchell. “For companies with reduced IT staffs, Alpha Professional provides a cost-effective alternative to a fully managed hosting solution, backed by our world-class data centers, network and support. We offer the industry s most comprehensive range of choices, whether it s self-managed servers, additional services, colocation or managed hosting, so customers gain access to the solution that fits their specific business requirements.”

January 14, 2009 – (HOSTINGWORD.COM) – The Planet, the global leader in IT hosting, today announced the addition of Panacore Corporation to its Northstar Managed Hosting customer portfolio. Based in Odessa, Texas, Panacore provides Internet services, software development and interactive communications to its clients in the petroleum, medical, legal and entertainment industries.

The company provides consulting and technical services through two divisions. The first division deploys Software as a Service (SaaS), Rich Internet Applications (RIA), Managed Services (MSP) and database solutions. The second division supplies customers with digital video production, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), 3-D design services and Web site development. Both divisions are supported by The Planet’s managed hosting architecture.

“At Panacore, our customers include us as part of their company construct,” said CEO Perry Berryhill. “They look to us for a wide range of services and expect us to deliver quickly and efficiently. It became clear that adding expensive IT staff didn’t help grow the business, and I was focusing more on operations than client development. We needed an IT outsourcing partner with systems that could scale with us, so that’s when I turned to The Planet.”

“Customers consistently select The Planet for our world-class data centers and enterprise-quality network,” said Steve Kahan, vice president of marketing and product management for The Planet. “With the Northstar Anticipation Advantage methodology, customers work directly with our team of seasoned experts who recommend the best plan for their business. Together, they build in key process indicators that provide a long-term scalability path to accommodate future growth.”

Perry Berryhill began his career in radio and television, industries that are always at the cutting edge of new technology developments. Over the course of a few years – and a taste of doing business directly with customers – Berryhill knew it was time to start his own company.

He initially provided network support and developed simple software applications. Not long after, the business became more complex, and he expanded his services to accommodate a growing client base. From IT to new media, Berryhill covers the gambit of services his clients require.

“A lot of small companies like Panacore start as one-off projects for friends, and suddenly there’s a real business with operating requirements,” said Berryhill. “Customers kept asking us to work on random projects like supporting their networks, or developing a middleware application to help them communicate with other departments more efficiently. Or they’d ask us to develop a video to make their products more intuitive or attractive. Today, we have in-house specialists who can deliver on this level of sophisticated client work.”

At present, Panacore is finalizing the development of a Web-based physical therapy software. The HIPAA-compliant application features 3-D animation for in-home rehabilitation. Therapists can design specific programs for patients who access their prescriptive protocols online with a user name and password. The software offers convenience for patients and also helps reduce their healthcare costs. The American Physical Therapy Association made the software part of its political action committee activities on Capitol Hill, presenting it to more than 500 Congressmen and Senators, and raising awareness of new technologies that enable industries to do more with less. Released under the name EuPraxia (www.eupraxia.com), the intellectual property is slated for venture participation this quarter.

Berryhill initially came to The Planet as a dedicated hosting customer who managed his own IT infrastructure. As he says, the landscape changed, and he was suddenly faced with providing extended services to clients that didn’t focus on his core business.
“We managed sites for a number of clients, but as the technology environment changed with hackers, malware and security challenges, those issues started to affect our clients. A single incident made it clear we needed more help to build and manage our IT infrastructure. We knew it was time to move to a more robust managed hosting platform.”

Today, Panacore relies on The Planet’s Northstar Managed Hosting business to operate its IT environment. With a dedicated team of certified experts always available, he has the confidence to call on clients who might otherwise have opted for larger organizations to do the work.

“With Northstar Managed Hosting, I have software and hardware engineers, security experts and database administrators who can join me for conference calls with customers,” he says. “They function as my in-house team and provide high-caliber, high-end services. I don’t have to worry about IT anymore, and now I can focus on growing my business. Today I can compete with bigger competitors, backed by the trustworthy people who are on my team.”
